The old-timer band was started by an old man in the city of Nukualofa, named Peni. He worked closely with the US Marine corpse detachment that was sent to Tonga in WWII. He learned many traditional American songs and taught them to his neighbors: "You are my Sunshine", "My Old Kentucky Home", "White Christmas", "Rye Whiskey, Rye Whiskey" and more. Today the tradition continues... The old-timer band entertains regularly at the Kaliloa Beach Inn.
